The One and Only Ivan is a children’s novel written by Katherine Applegate. I really enjoyed reading this book and recommends it to readers any level. Ivan is a silver gorilla who lives in a cage at a mall. Ivan understands the human’s language and is used to them looking at him. Ivan is friends with the other animals in the circus: Stella and elderly elephant, and Bob a stray dog. Ivan makes a new friend named Ruby who is an elephant. Ivan, Bob, Stella, and Ruby are all part of a stationary circus, but Ruby misses her family. Ivan realizes that reporters want to bring Ruby to a zoo, and he wants to help.
