Welcome back to school Falcons!  Here is a summary of last week’s Back to School Night. On Tuesday Kindergarten through 4th grade had their BTSN at 7pm and on Thursday, 5th grade and junior high had BTSN at 7pm. Back to School Night is a time when parents can tour the classrooms and learn more about the school and the upcoming school year. Kindergarten and new parents were able to tour and learn about the school for the first time. This year, Mrs. Ramirez shared a list with the parents with things that they might not know about the school. Our school also has a new mission statement: St. Philip the Apostle School is a Catholic parish community dedicated to teaching, inspiring, and nurturing children.

Back to School Night is a great way for parents to get to know our school.

If you are curious about Mrs. Ramirez’s list of things you might not know about the school she kindly shared it with us.

Here is the list:

  • School families lead mass of Tuesday
  • Aligned K-8 curriculum
  • Individual chromebooks in Junior High
  • Shared chromebooks in 3-5
  • Ipads in K-2
  • 50 additional chromebooks in the PLC and LC
  • 3D printers, and Mac and PC workstations in the LC
  • A St.Philip Youtube channel where morning announcements are streamed live everyday.
  • 3 resource teachers who work with individual groups of students
  • There are 40 students in the choir
  • We have 100 altar servers
  • The school never cuts any students for sports, drama, speech and debate
  • Teachers attend workshops and  conferences all around the country where they bring back ideas and learning to our students
  • We access federal funds through PUSD to cover the costs of sending teachers to conferences, workshops, and university level courses.
  • Teachers are just finishing up a three year training program called Into the Fields.  Once completed they receive special certification to be educators in the archdiocese.
  • One of the oldest Speech and Debate teams in the archdiocese that runs the area league and hosts two tournaments a year.
  • Read Live; an after school reading support program
  • 3 Spanish teachers; our students routinely test into high level HS classes
  • 3 math teachers in junior high
  • Junior high social studies students create podcast where they discuss current or historical topics..  You can listen to them on the Falcon’s Fables site.
  • We have a full online student newspaper called the Falcon Flyer.
  • Our junior high students create and edit movies in the audio visual room in the LC
  • 8th graders culminate their education here with a year long multi-disciplinary research project called the Capstone Project which they present to faculty before they graduate.

Our school also has a new mission statement: St. Philip the Apostle School is a Catholic parish community dedicated to teaching, inspiring, and nurturing children.
