Natural Painkillers in your Saliva
Recently, a study showed that there is a natural painkiller in your saliva called opiorphin. This painkiller can be up to six times more powerful than morphine, which is a synthetic painkiller with many side effects. Scientists originally found out about opiorphin when studying rats. The scientists found out that the rats had a natural painkiller called sialorphin and wondered if humans had something similar. Then they tested human saliva and found that we do. Sandy Mcknight was a former associate director of the Parke-Davis Neuroscience Research Centre in Cambridge, UK. He says that the painkiller has been tested but has not been used in a clinical trial. He also stated that have side effects that are not known. So the next time you get a cut, ask your mother to kiss your cut for you.
