The Winter Olympics happen every four years and they are coming again in 2018! The Games are set for Pyeongchang, South Korea, with millions of viewers ready to tune in to see their favorite skiers, sledders, and skaters.

Winter Olympic events include:

  • Ice hockey
  • Biathlon
  • Curling
  • Snowboarding
  • Luge
  • Alpine skiing
  • Ski jumping
  • Speed skating
  • Bobsled
  • Freestyle skiing
  • Short track speed skating
  • Figure skating

 

Some of your favorite Olympic athletes will be back this year. Lindsey Vonn, one of the top downhill skiers, is back from a leg injury. She missed the last Olympics because of injuries. Shaun White, the snowboarder known as “The Flying Tomato,” is also returning. He will be going for gold in the half pipe after placing fourth in that event at the 2014 Winter Olympics. He won gold in 2006 and 2010.

Some new favorites will be coming to the Olympic games as well! Mikaela Shiffrin, a competitor of Lindsey Vonn, is favored for gold in the slalom ski race. There are also some new skaters such as Bradie Tennell, who is our National Champion in the women’s figure skating event.

The Winter Olympics start on Friday, February 9, and end on Sunday, February 25. The channels that will broadcast it are NBC Universal, NBCSN, CNBC, USA, and also OlympicChannel.com and the Olympic Channel app.
