Blood Red Horse by K.M. Grant tells the story of a blood red horse named Hosanna during the third Crusade. Hosanna goes through many owners fighting over him. The main characters are Ellie, Kamil, Gavin, and William. Ellie is a young girl taken in by Gavin and Williams father, Sir Thomas, after he parents died. She is betrothed to Gavin. Kamil is fighting alongside Saladin, leader of the other army. Then there is Gavin, the older brother of William. William is the official owner of Hosanna. There is fighting and friendship throughout the journey to the Holy land to fight for Jerusalem. I recommend this book to grades 6-8.
