High School Summer Options
Summer School is available at many different high schools and at Saint Philip. Summer School can help with skills that are used in school, in art, or in sports. I have created a list of the summer courses available for middle school students at a few of the most common high schools that Saint Philip students go to after graduation.
Loyola:
Loyola offers summer school to both boys and girls entering 6th grade to 12th grade. The Summer Classes are from Monday, June 18th to Friday, July 20th not including July 4th, 5th, and 6th which are holidays. Registration is from March 7th, 2018-May 23rd, 2018 and late registration is from May 24th-June 20th with an additional fee.
Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy
FSHA offers different activity camps for young girls including sports camp for girls 6-12 years old, Basketball Camp for girls in 5th-8th grade, and Volleyball Camp that is open to girls of all ages.
Sports Camp:

Basketball Camp:

Every week, Basketball Camp is from 9am to noon.

Every week, Volleyball Camp is from 1pm to 4pm with drop off being at 12:30pm.
La Salle
La Salle offers many different classes including different forms of art classes and academic classes. The classes include Algebra Enrichment, Can Move – Dance/Acting Intensive, CSI La Salle, Drawing and Painting, Environmental Science, Essay Film / Documentary Filmmaking, Fundamentals of Literature, High School Exam Prep, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Science Lab Camp, Sculpture, Study Skills, and Writing Workshop. I chose the most interesting classes from the selection of classes at La Salle.

Immaculate Heart Middle School
Immaculate Heart Middle School offers summer school for girls entering grades 4-8. Classes are from June 18 to July 13. Classes are split up into 3 periods with two 10 minute breaks in between. Session 1 is 8:10 to 9:10, Session 2 is 9:35 to 10:35, Session 3 is 11:00 to 12:00, and afternoon classes and workshops start at 12:15 and their endings depend on the class. I chose the most interesting classes from the very wide selection of classes at Immaculate Heart Middle School.

St. Francis High School
St. Francis offers Summer School to both boys and girls entering grades 7-12. You may enroll in four courses and registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Summer School starts on June 18 and ends on July 20 of 2018. The school hours are from 8:00am to 1:00pm. Summer School hours are split up into four periods. Period 1 is from 8:00 to 9:10, Period 1 is from 9:15 to 10:25, Period 3 is from 10:30 to 11:40, and Period 4 is from 11:45 to 12:55.
iPad Skills
Students will learn how to work the iPad and how to submit homework and take quizzes on the iPad. Students will use St Francis iPads.

Study Skills for Success
Students will learn organization, note-taking techniques, test taking strategies and tools for effective listening.

Leadership
Students will work on different skills that are needed in leadership using different activities. These skills include Vision, Integrity, Innovativeness, Wise Judgment, Service Mindedness, Goal Processing, Skill Assessment, Emotional Maturity, Fostering Relationships and Masterful Communication.
Periods 3 or 4
CSI: Forensic Science
Students will use all of the different skills that are needed when solving a crime using forensic science. These skills include forensic photography, glass fragment analysis, analyses of blood and skeletal remains, identifying trace substances, developing latent fingerprints, identifying forgeries, forensic entomology, DNA fingerprinting, and ballistics.
Periods 1, 2, or 3
Introduction to Guitar
Students will learn the basics of using a guitar and the different ways of playing a guitar. Students will learn plucking, strumming, tuning, and chords.
Period 4
Drumline Camp
Students will learn the different aspects of a drumline. Students will also learn how to read music and be instructed in precision marching. This camp is open to beginners as well as returning drumline performers. Instruments are provided.
Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:15 to 3:15
Mayfield Senior School
Mayfield Senior School does offer many summer classes. There is also a sports camp that is open to students going into grades 5-8. Mayfield offers many classes for students entering grades 6-8. Mayfield has not yet posted their summer school classes as of 3-20-18.
