The Origins of Thanksgiving

The Origins of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving occurs on the fourth Thursday of November and is a harvest festival celebrating the huge harvest festival that the Native Americans and Pilgrims participated in. An interesting part of the first Thanksgiving is that they didn’t even have turkey! The first Thanksgiving happened when the Pilgrims that wished for freedom from the King of England came to the United States.  When the pilgrims arrived, the Native Americans were threatened by the Pilgrims and they were all in a disagreement. When the Pilgrims and Native Americans began to become more familiar with each other they started to like being around each other. The Native Americans taught the Pilgrims how to do things like farm and fish. To celebrate their alliance the Native Americans and Pilgrims had the first Thanksgiving! The history of Thanksgiving is a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving.
