True Grit is an American classic written by Charles Portis. What really makes this book significant to St. Philip kids is the fact that Ms. Bello, the junior high English teacher, assigns every 7th grader this book to read. True Grit is about a 14-year-old girl who sets out with two grown men to avenge the death of her father. It is written in an older style of writing, so it may be difficult to understand. True Grit is best read in a quiet setting, since it may be a bit hard to follow. Though the concept of True Grit is well thought out, I wouldn’t say I thoroughly enjoyed True Grit, which is disappointing. However, some people I know loved it, so you may as well. Overall, I suggest you keep an open mind while reading True Grit.
