This week’s junior high reader’s corner book is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games is a dystopian fiction novel. The story is about a 16-year-old girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in the dystopian city of Panem. The city of Panem is split up into 12 districts. Katniss, her mother, and sister Prim live in District 12. Every year the city chooses two people from each district (one boy and one girl) to participate in the annual Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are a battle to the death in which the last one standing wins the game. Katniss’ sister is chosen to participate but Katniss volunteers to take her place. The boy chosen from her district is named Peeta Mallerk. What will happen? Will Katniss die battling to the death or will she succeed? Find out what happens in The Hunger Games!
