8th Grade Field Trip

8th Grade Field Trip

A week ago, 8th grade went on a field trip to California Institute of Technology for a lecture on the Galapagos Islands. The 8th graders walked a few blocks to the university and then sat in a theater amongst other schools. The 8th graders listened to a lecture by a graduate student and then watched a movie. The film showed the discoveries and life’s work of Charles Darwin, the man who put two and two together to create the theory of evolution and natural selection. Darwin’s theory of evolution by Natural Selection is the process by which individuals that are better adapted to their environment are more likely to survive and reproduce more than other members of the same species. The four steps of Natural Selection are overproduction, variation, competition, and selection. We learned this is science class last year so the whole lecture was a refresher on a topic we’d already covered. Overall the field trip was very interesting and the 8th graders had a good time.
