The first book in the Lord of the Rings series, The Fellowship of the Ring, is undeniably a masterpiece. The author, J. R. R. Tolkien, builds off of the fantastical world that he created in The Hobbit. This novel follows the beginning of Frodo Baggins, Gandalf, and company’s adventures to destroy the One Ring, acquired by Bilbo in The Hobbit. They encounter many incredible people and creatures crafted by Tolkien. Be ready to spend a long time reading, though: This book is around 400 pages long (with the edition that I have), and Tolkien uses old and descriptive language. However, don’t let this deter you; his worldbuilding is part of what makes his books incredible. Anyone should read The Fellowship of the Ring, however, I highly suggest you read The Hobbit first to provide some background knowledge on the expansive lore of Middle-earth.
