Speech Tournament 2/20/2021 Results

Hello Falcons!

As you know our Speech and Debate team had its first competition this past weekend in the Southern California Junior Forensics League Speech Tournament. Twenty different middle schools throughout California competed in the tournament hosted by Wilshire Academy in Los Angeles.  Our falcons have been practicing for the past few Thursdays preparing for this all-day event that went from 9:00 in the morning to 4:00 in the afternoon. They competed in Impromptu, Storytelling, and Humorous Interpretation. In Impromptu our falcons (Abby Pranata 8, Joey Marrs 7, Claire Sather 7, and Gavin Johnson 8) competed against 39 people from other schools. In the category of Storytelling, of 40 competitors, five were SPAS falcons (Rocio Castro 8, Patrick Maroun 8, Joseph Schimmoller 7, Alanna Valer 8, and Brandon Yan 8). In Humorous Interpretation there were 40 people competing, two of which were from St. Philip (Reagan Bean 8 and Mercy Bruchey 7). So here are the results of our falcons’ first competition of the year and our first ever virtual competition.

For Storytelling both Patrick Maroun (8) and Joseph Schimmoller (7) went on to compete in the final round!

For Humorous Interpretation no one advanced.
