Where are the 8th graders going next year?

A few days before Spring Break I sent out a survey to all the 8th graders.  A majority of them responded and I was able to calculate the exact numbers.  The top two schools that the Falcons are going to are Mayfield for the girls and St. Francis for the boys.

Out of the 63 8th graders, there will be students attending 18 different schools.  This class has seen numbers that previous classes have not seen before, such as the high number of students that will attend a public high school. This is also the first class in many years to have students attending Flintridge Prep.  The exact numbers are listed below (please note that these are not the exact percentages, just estimation).

Mayfield: 22%

St. Francis: 20%

La Salle: 9%

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy: 9%

Public School (6 different schools): 9%

Alverno: 6%

Loyola: 5%

Don Bosco: 5%

Immaculate Heart: 3%

Flintridge Prep: 3%

Maranatha: 1%

St. Lucy’s: 1%

Ramona Convent: 1%

The public schools that Class of 2015 will be attending include Gabrielino, La Canada, Arcadia, San Marino, VAPA, and Bonita.

When I sent out the survey for the 8th graders, I required them to explain WHY they choose that school.  Most of the students explained that their siblings go there/used to go there, and that’s why they choose that school.  Other than that, I received other responses that may even inspire the “future generations”

Amanda Hill (Alverno) really likes the programs Alverno offers.

Nico Ciranna (St. Francis) says that it is a very good Catholic school that will provide him with lots of opportunities.

Catherine Maldonado (Public-San Marino) says that it is the top ranking school, and has great academics, athletics, and arts programs.

Lauren Mendoza (Mayfield) said Mayfield provides a nurturing yet a challenging environment and she always feels welcome.

Fiona Mass (FSHA) felt she belongs at that school and overall loves everything about that school.

Madison Sebenius (La Salle) like the classes they offer, and she feels really comfortable there.

Thomas Gonzalez (Loyola) felt that Loyola provides a good Catholic education.

Patrick Jackson (Don Bosco) is cut out perfectly for him because of the technological site.

Arielle Guzman (Flintridge Prep) says that they have the best academic program and great athletics.

Leo Osses (Maranatha) really likes the school because it has a variety of new subjects to learn, has a big campus, nice students, and the teachers are very funny there.

Marlin Herrera (St. Lucy’s) likes the sports program there and the variety of clubs they have to offer.  She also loves the view, since it is on the mountain.

Maricris Santiago (Immaculate Heart) feels really comfortable.

On behalf of the Class of 2015, we would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers through this high school process.  It was definitely difficult, with its ups and downs, but we made it!  Congrats Class of 2015!
