The Adventures of Taco and Cheeseburger Ch. 15
By Lindsey Michelena & Maria Yniguez
In the woods with Laurence…..
I cannot be lost. Well, this is bad… Laurence thinks as he wanders the woods. He has been walking around for what seems like forever. Come on, guys where are you? He has been looking for Taco and Cheeseburger like crazy but he has not seen them at all. He knows they might be in their animal forms, but he hasn’t seen a fox or wolf either. This is hopeless. I’ve been wandering around these woods for ages. It’s been hours. What if they’ve been killed…. No. I can’t think that way. They’re probably fine. I hope….. Laurence sighs. Suddenly he hears something moving somewhat close to him. He makes sure his sword is in place then slowly moves closer to the direction where the sound is coming from. He sees two people in the distance. What if that’s Taco and Cheeseburger? But what if it isn’t? He decides to take his chances, and he slowly advances. Yes, he recognizes them all right. He calls, “Taco! Cheeseburger!” The two people turn around. One cries, “Laurence?” Laurence yells, “Yes! Its me” Taco runs over with Cheeseburger following behind her. Laurence and Taco hug. “How-where-why-when-” Cheeseburger studders. Nope, she hasn’t changed a bit, thinks Laurence. “Calm down, Cheeseburger. One question at a time”, says Taco calmly. Nope, she hasn’t changed either, thinks Laurence. Laurence explains everything to them. “We’ve got to get back to Bumshy Head!” says Taco. “Come on, let’s go! Before Hemingway finds us!” says Cheeseburger. “What? Who?” asks Laurence in confusion. Taco and Cheeseburger explain everything to him. Laurence says, “Yup, then we definitely have to get back. But-” he stops, just realizing something. “What?” asks the girls in unison. “It’s nothing-it’s just that I forgot to leave something to find my way back. “You call that nothing?” says Taco. “So we’re lost? AGAIN?” asks Cheeseburger. “Ugh! How could I have been so…so careless? I guess I was so caught up in trying to find you that I forgot that I had common sense.” He hit his head with his hand in frustration. “Don’t worry”, says Taco reassuringly. “It will be fine. At least now we are not split up and lost in the woods. Let’s just all be calm and-” Cheeseburger is not calm. She starts running around in circles, screaming, and hyperventilating, not even giving Taco a chance to finish. Taco shakes her head and sighs. Laurence is concerned. “What’s wrong with her?” he asks. “Nothing’s wrong with her. This is her usual behavior. I have experienced it many times being lost in these woods”, says Taco. “LOST-HAVE-TO-FIND-WAY-BACK-NOW-HELP-US-WANT-OUT-
NOW!!!” Taco slowly approaches Cheeseburger and tries to calms her down. It takes Taco about ten minutes just to get her to sit down quietly. “Ok, Cheeseburger, we will find a way out. Just be calm.” They decide to wander in the direction that Laurence had come.
