The Adventures of Taco and Cheeseburger Ch.28
By Lindsey Michelena & Maria Yniguez
“Wow! I can’t believe a little kitty could really could do all of that! I mean, you guys talked about Hemingway at the town meeting, but…wow!” remarks Soupy after Garroth tells her about what happened with Dante. “You actually…like…him?” asks Garroth. “Well, I didn’t exactly say ‘like’ but…sure,” replies Soupy, “but of course, I don’t have a pet of my own, so I guess Hemingway seems…” “Do you want him?” asks Garroth. “YES!!!!” replies Soupy. “I will love him and take care of him and play with him and-this will be so much fun!” “Yes, but I have some rules. For all of our protection.” “Yes? Anything!” replies Soupy. “Don’t let him escape. Keep him in your home. The point is, keep him with you at all times. And for your safety, be kind to him. I can already tell that you will do that. And if you feel like he is too big of a handful for you, turn him over to us. We’ll find another home for him. And you know the vet’s office right over there? If he gets sick or hurt, you can take him there. And they sell items like food and toys for your pet, so you can get them there.” “I will! I will take very good care of him! We will be the best of friends, Hemingway and I!”
Soupy is right…sort of. Hemingway wakes Soupy up every morning at 5:00 am. It sounds something like this: “MEOW!!!! MEOW!!! MEOW!!!!……” With that, Soupy and Hemingway live happily ever after. Well…sort of.
As for the others, things aren’t going so happily. They are still worried to death about Dante. Especially Alison and Ramses. Dr. Turman enters the waiting room and says, “I have good news and bad news. The good news is that he isn’t getting any worse. The bad news is that he isn’t getting any better. He’s been the same for days. If the operation didn’t work, he should be dead already. But if it did work, he should have woken up already. It’s probably taking longer than usual. This is not a good or bad sign. I guess we’ll just have to wait some more time to find out if it worked. Maybe that’s a bad thing, though. I can see that you are all worried terribly.” Everyone nods. “Well, there is no sign of any change happening, so I guess you guys can leave. I’ll get you if anything happens.” They all leave, but Ramses and Alison won’t. “Remember what happened last time? We thought that Dante wouldn’t die soon, but he almost did. We shouldn’t leave. At least, I shouldn’t leave,” says Alison. Ramses agrees. Dr. Turman says, “Really, you guys should go. Trust me, it’ll all be fine.” Alison and Ramses join the others. “Don’t worry. Trust Dr. Turman,” says Cheeseburger. Taco says, “He knows best. After all, he is Dante’s only chance at survival.”
