Roman Coins

Roman Coins

Recently in Japan there were Roman coins found in a ruined castle.  Old Roman and Ottoman coins were found under a the castle and were originally thought fake.  The coins were perceived to be fakes dropped by tourists to fool others.  There has been a dig at the castle where the coins were found since 2013 but they were only found this year by a visiting archaeologist.  Toshio Tsukamoto, the man who found the coins, had only been called to the dig to examine Samurai armor found at the site.   The 10 Roman coins found have been tested to have been from 300 – 400 AD and the Ottoman coins had inscriptions from 1687.  Objects at the dig site have been acquired by other countries through trade.  Finally this leads to the assumption that there will be many more discoveries of artifacts near by in the future, so we can only wait and see.
