This month, the month of October, is adopt-a-dog month. Mostly humane societies and the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) celebrate this month. According to the ASPCA, over 7.6 million animals are put into shelter, 3.9 of which are dogs. In addition to that, 1.2 million of those dogs are euthanized each year.  Adopting a dog versus buying a dog can have so many benefits. Some include giving a dog love, a feeling they may never have experienced before, or saving some dogs lives. But even though this is adopt-a-dog month, you should make sure you and your family is ready for a dog. Families or individuals should be prepared and committed to caring for their new companion. Make sure each individual is prepared to care, love, and cherish their new family member no matter what. Once everyone is in agreement, make sure to choose a dog that is right for you. This may take some time, but once you find the right dog, you will know it is the right choice. When looking for a new family member, some good places to look are your local animal shelter/humane society or other dog rescues/organizations. To learn more, click the links below.
