New Moon, by Stephenie Meyer is a fantasy book about a teenage girl named Bella and her love interest, Edward, who happens to be a vampire. This is the second book in the Twilight series. It’s Bella’s eighteenth birthday, and the Cullens (Edward and his family) make sure to celebrate it. After an incident, Edward realizes that Bella is not safe with his family around. One day after school, Edward takes Bella into the woods and tells her he has to leave. Bella is devastated, and doesn’t recover for months. She continues to go to school, get good grades, and be a good student, but she now has no social life and no happiness. She befriends her old friend, Jacob Black. She learns that he is secretly a werewolf. Slowly, she begins to grow happier. Although she enjoys being with Jacob, she also continues to hope that Edward will return, as she still loves him. She also wonders that if Edward doesn’t return, she can learn to love Jacob instead. To find out what happens, read New Moon, available in the Learning Commons.
