Robert Brandt, Class of ’11, finishes 11th in State Cross Country
Robert Brandt, St. Philip Class of 2011, placed eleventh in the CIF Cross Country State Championships. Running for Loyola High School, Brandt, a junior, put in a time of 15:29 on a 5 kilometer (about 3.1 mile) course, 27 seconds behind the race winner, Tal Braude. The final race capped a year in which Brandt won four cross country races, was runner-up in another race and also finished fourth and seventh, with State being his lowest finish at eleventh. Brandt did all of this as the leader of the sixteenth-ranked nationally Cubs team that finished fourth in the California Division I finals, with California having six of the top sixteen cross country teams in the nation (according to some sources). Brandt was also fifth among non-seniors in the Division I race (made up of the largest high schools, such as Loyola).
