Roses, Roses and… More Roses?!

A bystander’s review of her favorite Rose Parade Floats.

Every year, as usual, the Pasadena Rose Parade floats through the town. Millions of people flock to the streets of Pasadena, California to see this great show every New Year’s Day. This year’s  parade was comprised of high school and college bands, dancers, pogo stick jumpers, jump ropers, equestrian riders, floats, etc. Each float is supported by a metal structure inside. The outside is completely decorated with all natural roses, flowers, seeds, plants, etc.

Volunteers graciously give the community their time by helping to decorate the floats. 2014 was no exception. This year the floats were better than ever.

All the floats were unique, but there was one float, however, that caught everyone’s eye. The float was designed as a space ship, with aliens inside. The top of the ship would lift, the drawbridge would lower down, and the aliens would slide off the float. They would dance around the outside of the float, and then crawled back inside. I thought this was the best float because of the unique spacecraft.

Many local companies participate in the Rose Parade. Macy’s once again hosted the Rose Court float, and provided all of the court’s elegant dresses. Trader Joes created their float from “food”. The float was comprised of a giant cheese and relish platter that stacked up into cheese scrapers (skyscrapers). Honda built their sound and pace car, which projected pictures of people in the audience as it passed by. The neighboring cities around Pasadena showed off their floats. The City of Sierra Madre designed a fish, for example, and the City of Alhambra created a monster truck, that was being driven by monsters.

Let’s all thank the volunteers of the 2014 Rose Parade for the great job they did! The 125th annual Rose Parade looked as beautiful as ever, and we have these amazing volunteers to thank!
