Over the course of 148 days, the Writers Guild of America engaged in a strike.
Finally, on Wednesday, September 27th, after many days of negotiation, the strike ended.
This strike was fueled by many reasons, but the driving factor was AI.
Major television companies have been developing AI for a long time now, and as AI gets more advanced, it poses a greater threat toward many humans through potential job losses.
Some examples of this are in commercials, where there have been accounts of people auditioning for commercials, and being turned down, only to later discover that AI has been used to replicate their voices in the commercials.
Another example of very advanced AI being used recently was in the most recent Indiana Jones movie, in which the lead actor realistically looked forty years younger.
This strike affected many people in the industry, due to the fact that they had not been working for almost 5 months.
Unsurprisingly, for many, it is a great relief that the strike is finally over.
While the writers’ strike might be getting all of the attention, SAG (the Screen Actors Guild) remains on strike.
Hopefully, a resolution will be reached soon and everyone can get back to work.
