All sorts of countries celebrate New Year differently all over the world in fun and unique ways. Here are just a few of the most famous ones!
In Spain, when midnight hits, people eat a grape every time the clock chimes. Once the clock is done chiming, they have eaten 12 grapes, which symbolizes good luck for the new year.
In England, people often celebrate the New Year by singing Auld Lang Syne when the clock hits midnight. Others may go for an ice-cold plunge on New Year’s Day.
In France, You kiss everyone you are with on the cheek twice at midnight. Many people also go to the Eiffel Tower to watch the fireworks.
In China, they have a Chinese New Year so they celebrate New Year on a different day than most. Although their New Year is on a different day each year, they celebrate by giving red envelopes with money inside to friends and family. Some people also dress up in dragon costumes in parades.
In Korea, the New Year occurs sometime in January – February. They give offerings to their ancestors on New Year’s Day and Eve. This is Korea’s main holiday and they look forward to it every year.
