It’s called Chinese new year because according to the lunar calendar the new year starts on January 29th. It is a 15 day long celebration marked by many traditions.
In Chinese New Year you wear red because it brings good fortune and luck for the coming year. You also eat many important foods that represent things like noodles to represent long life, tangerines because they are considered a lucky fruit, golden spring rolls to represent prosperity and many more!
