Great news for St. Philip: after many years of anticipation, soccer is finally here! Coach Weatherall has successfully enrolled the school in the CYO varsity league for boys and girls in the 7th and 8th grades, and the upcoming season is set to kick off on March 8th. The season will run for around 3 to 4 weeks. To ensure students have all the information, Coach Weatherall sent out an email that outlines details about the league, as well as an interest form for those who want to participate. I interviewed several 7th and 8th graders. Many 7th-grade boys and girls defined their excitement about the addition of soccer to St. Philip, eagerly looking forward to joining the teams and being part of the action. However, the enthusiasm among the 8th-grade girls was notably less. While some were interested, many expressed less excitement toward the sport. On the other hand, the boys from the 8th grade showed considerable enthusiasm, with many feeling pumped about the upcoming season and eager to contribute to the team. In summary, the introduction of soccer at St. Philip has generated a positive buzz among students. With support from faculty and peers, this new experience has the potential to become a cherished tradition at the school.
