On December 16, 2014, the first-person game Subnautica was released (Made by Unknown World Games). The plot of the game is simple: In the future, the space exploration company Alterra launches you on a huge spaceship called the Aurora. You are nearing a water planet named 4546-B. While in orbit, a mysterious green beam hits your ship from the planet, causing the Aurora to crash. You are the only survivor. You need to survive by hunting fish for food and water and not swimming too close to the leviathans, figure out what shot down the Aurora, and cure a virus plaguing the planet. Despite the sea monsters such as the iconic Reaper Leviathan, it is not a horror game. Instead, it is a survival/exploration game. Since then, only one other Subnautica game has been released (Subnautica: Below Zero, released in 2019), but now developers are telling us that Subnautica 2’s early access will be released this year. Based on some footage from them, the graphics are way better, and everything is new, such as the plot and the creatures. And the biggest change of all is them adding multiplayer. In the first game, it was only the player in the game, which made the player feel uncomfortable and alone. Everything is new, including new bases to build, new submarines, new biomes, new creatures, and lastly, the whole game takes place on another planet. The graphics are much better because they are using Unreal Engine 5, one of the best game engines in the world, which has been used in other big games such as Fortnite. Now that you and your friends can play, you can experience the underwater world (such as heart-stopping jump-scares) like never before.
