The 7th-grade trip to Catalina Island, with CIMI (Catalina Island Marine Institute), was an unforgettable trip with learning and adventure. The fun and inviting staff and counselors were a welcoming start to the trip, and comfortable and cozy “dorms” were also a plus. The chaperones offered an early morning hike, which was extremely beautiful as the sun rose when you got to the top. The cafeteria offered an all-you-can-eat buffet and plenty of options for vegetarians, allergies, and other dietary restrictions. Although there were plenty of options, the reviews were “mixed” to say the least. Each day consisted of 3 meals, 3 activities, and 3 time frames to have free time. The camp also included a “rec” center with balls and a gaga ball pit, a beach volleyball court, a small soccer field, a basketball court, and even a small climbing wall. Every day, there were new activities that were extremely informative and exceptionally fun. Some of the activities included squid dissection, fish, shark, and algae lab. Invertebrate lab, mini hike, a climbing wall, and an astronomy night hike. The trip was originally meant to be 2 days, but ended up being 3 due to the aggressive winds. Although some people may disagree, having an extra day ended up being loads of fun with an entire afternoon on the beach and an amazing activity at night. Overall, the trip was extremely enjoyable. I learned so much about marine biology and had so much fun.
