From tests to essays, Junior High is hard. To help the up-and-coming 6th graders, here is a lovely guide to help you out! Introducing a new class, instead of having computers with Mrs. Roldan, you have LEGO Education with Mrs. Behr! Plus a new, secret class called… Study Hall! Or Study Skills.
We welcome the new teachers you will have in JH…
Teacher: Mr. W!
Class: Social Studies
Homeroom: 8A
Extra Information: He’s a very chill, casual teacher. Type fast, or you won’t be able to take enough notes in his class. Also, copy and paste the questions from his slides instead of manually typing them. Lots of vocab too. Manually written. A bunch of sites are blocked too, including Gmail.
(P.S. He has a very clicky keyboard, so don’t mind it.)
Teacher: Ms. Ortega!
Class: ELA (or English Language Arts)
Homeroom: 8B
Extra Information: N/A, but she’s very nice.
Teacher: Mrs. Behr!
Class: Science and LEGO Lab/Education (6th grade only)
Homeroom: 7A
Extra Information: She’s nice and chill. However, I suggest you train your hands because all your notes are physically written. There are tests after every scope, so I suggest you try and study a lot since the study guide is given a week before the actual test. There are many presentations, but look out for the Science Fair.
Teacher: Señora Cross!
Class: Spanish
Homeroom: 7B
Extra Information: She’s very serious but we do fun things in class. She’ll give you all the study guides that you need , and whenever you learn something new, you’ll always have a quiz the week after. Overall, everything is pretty chill. Main thing is to pay attention and not get in trouble. BE ORGANIZED!
Teacher: Mrs. Morales!
Class: Religion, LEGO Lab/Education (7th and 8th grade ONLY), and World Scholars Cup (5th- 7th)
Homeroom: 6A
Extra Information: A great religion teacher, but just don’t get on her bad side. Pretty calm and very nice.
Teacher: Mrs. Hedgpeth!
Class: Math
Homeroom: 6B
Extra Information: Awesome math teacher, normally gives daily homework except on Fridays. Sometimes, there are also quizzes on Thursdays, so watch out. A normal class, but that depends on who you’re asking.
Teacher: Coach Weatherall!
Class: P.E. / Physical Education
Extra Information: Very chill. He’s funny and plays around with us. Pro tip? Beat him in rock-paper-scissors. He’s gonna always deny that you win. Also, buy him Starbucks gift cards! Coach loves them.
Teacher: Ms. Slater!
Class: Art
Extra Information: N/A, but the class is chill and fun.
Teacher: Ms. Ruiz!
Class: Music
Extra Information: N/A
Teacher: Mrs. Natalie!
Class: Library and Drama Club
Extra Information: A fun class! A lot of reading and annotating, but it’s pretty fun in general. Just pay attention and always ask as many questions as you need, but don’t be annoying
Now that you’ve met all you’re new teachers, you’re gonna need to know what to DO and NOT to do.
I understand that you’ll want to procrastinate and play games or you just have after school activities like drama or sports, but PLEASE DON’T PROCRASTINATE. Finish all your work in class so you have more free time later, unless you’re somehow a professional procrastinator. Also, don’t take more than you can handle. If you want to do many extracurriculars but take a long time to finish work, limit yourself. You have 3 more years to try new things. Don’t rush. If you want to do all of that in one year, you just have to get better
Pay attention in class a lot! If you do, you’ll get at least some decent grades. For more info, you can look at Camille Kinderman’s “How to get an easy A” article!
