Chocolate Cherry Cake

This cake tastes best the day after it is made, as the frosting solidifies, creating a delicious mix between the moist cake and rich frosting. The frosting tastes like fudge after it solidifies, and is the best part of the cake. This is my favorite cake recipe, and has been enjoyed as a birthday cake for multiple generations.

1 package chocolate cake mix

3 eggs

1 can (21 oz) cherry fruit filling

1 cup sugar

1 tablespoon butter

1/3 cup milk

1 package (6 oz) semi-sweet chocolate pieces

Combine cake mix, eggs, and cherry fruit filling. Mix until well blended. Pour into greased and floured 9″ by 13″ pan. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 35-40 minutes or until the cake springs back when lightly touched. Frost when cool with the following: in a small saucepan combine sugar, butter, and milk, stirring constantly and cook one minute. Remove from heat; stir in chocolate pieces until melted and smooth. Spread over cake.
