1st Place Junio High: The Girl in The Mirror

One dark cloudy and evening in the gloomy city of Beach City, Nevada Windsor was walking down the beach. When she was walking all of the sudden something shiny caught her eye. She went and grabbed the shiny object, it took her about 2 minutes to dig it up. It turned out to be one of her favorite objects, a mirror, it was so stunning. The mirror was silver and had decorated webs all around it, it even had something engraved in the back, it said,

“Beware holder of the mirror for Vanity is the most potent sin of all.”

Now Nevada never took those words into consideration, she just looked at her lovely reflection in that mirror. She loved that mirror, in fact, she loved it so much that she took it home with her.

That night before she fell asleep she looked  into the mirror and admire herself for exactly two minutes, which is how long it took her to dig up the item, and then she said, “Mirror, mirror in my hand who is the most beautiful, prettiest, most attractive girl in the land?” Then she closed her eyes for two seconds and then looked into the mirror. What she saw in that mirror horrified her, she saw herself as ugly as could be, her skin was ripped like a zombie and her hair looked like strings of a spider’s web, and her eyes were blacker than the deepest depths of the ocean.

After seeing herself she was frightened, she went  to her mother to have her examin the mirror. When her mother looked in the mirror she saw nothing unusual, everything looked normal. Nevada’s mother was very upset and sent Nevada to her room for the rest of the night. For her mother, Mary Windsor, was a lawyer she very strict and hated lying. The next night Nevada had developed a horrible cough and her skin was pale, however this did not stop her from admiring herself. She picked up the mirror and looked on the back. It had a new message,

“You have been warned Nevada Windsor, destroy the mirror before it destroys you!”

Nevada did not care, she repeated the same process she had done the night before. She closed her eyes and said, ““Mirror, mirror in my hand who is the most beautiful, prettiest, most attractive girl in the land?” Nevada screamed, she dropped the mirror and ran out of her room screaming, she ran to her mother, but she was nowhere to be found. She did hear a noise, the kinda noise that makes afraid to close your eyes. Then she felt a soft breath down her neck. Not able to take it any longer Nevada turned around slowly, She saw, herself but this was not the Nevada we know, this Nevada looked like the one in the mirror, but worse her hair was even thinner, her skin was torn down to the bone, and her eyes they were no longer black, but purple the color of vanity.

Nevada screamed like a banshee, closed her eyes and found herself looking back at the world. For Nevada was now trapped in the mirror, she screamed for help but no one could hear, Nevada’s poor mother looked for her. Sadly her mother recently passed, due to unnatural causes, they say it started with a cough but let’s leave it at that. People still say that if you look in a mirror and repeat those same words that Nevada once said, that you can still hear. You can still hear those screams of pain, but that is just a myth. Or is it? Now the mirror waits for its next victim, and remember,

“Vanity is the most killer sin of all.”
