Mt. Baldy Field Trip Review

On October 28 the seventh grade went on a field trip to Mt. Baldy.  They first arrived and received a set of firm rules: no picking up rocks or sticks, no throwing rocks or sticks, and do not harm wildlife.  Next the two classes were split up and they went to two stations.  7A started by testing the small creek for oxygen, nitrate, and PH levels.  Next 7A classified and learned about the habitat.  They classified plants, learned if they had any special uses or traits, for example stinging nettles have sharp hairs that irritate your skin, and regrouped for a final discussion.  Next, they went to the Mount Baldy ranger station to have lunch and study geology.  Finally, after this they hopped on the bus and returned to St. Philips.  The seventh grade seemed to enjoy the field trip because of the fun hands on activities.  They learned a lot about biology and geology from the rangers on Mount Baldy.
