Hello Falcons, Will Sather here. Coming back to school may not be the best time of year for students, however, it signifies the beginning of numerous sports seasons, including for students here. Some sports that have started recently include Varsity and B Boys Flag Football, Varsity and B Girls Volleyball, and Cross country.
Varsity Flag Football has started out well this season with a 2-1 record, with an emphatic 49-0 win over Assumption, and heartbreaking 13-12 loss at Alverno, and a dramatic victory in 4 Overtimes against Holy Family last Tuesday. Defensive Lineman and 8th Grader Nixon Saponara has had a great season so far, racking up 9 sacks in the first 3 games of the year, 5 coming in the win against Assumption, and a pivotal pass deflection in the 4th OT against Holy Family. When asked about the rest of this season he responded “We have a couple winnable games up ahead, and we are getting ready to hopefully play in CYO Open Division Playoffs if all goes well”. They will return to action this week.
Another sport going on now is Girls Volleyball, with Varsity also having a good start to the season, at 2-1 as well. 8th Grader Ava Valenzuela, a member of Varsity Volleyball had to say this regarding the hope for the rest of the season: “We hope to win the rest of our games this year. We are a good team, and I think we can do it”.
Last, but not least, there is Cross Country. They have a huge race coming up, The Mt. Sac Invitational, on Oct. 17th. This is a yearly event, that is most likely one of the biggest events of the year. There will be more about that next week.
Well, that just about does it for the beginning of Fall Sports, thank you for reading my first article of this new school year. If you have any questions, concerns, ideas for articles, want to talk about sports or something you think I left out, let me know via email or come up to me at school. If you are playing on any sports teams this Fall, (I know I am!) I wish you the best of luck on the season. Thank you all for reading and GO FALCONS!
