End of Sports Seasons
As the school year ends, so ends a very successful year for Falcon Athletics. The Falcons won the Foothill League in Boys Varsity Volleyball and Basketball, going undefeated before the playoffs in both sports, placing third in Volleyball in all of CYO. On the Girls Varsity side for both sports, they placed second in the Foothill League before being eliminated in the Sweet Sixteen. The Falcon sports program was ranked seventh in CYO, and second in the Northern Section.
Boys Varsity Volleyball was the most successful sport, going undefeated before the Final Four, when they lost to tournament runner-up Corpus Chrispi. The Falcons then won the third place game against Holy Family, beating the Knights in three sets to finish third in CYO.
The Boys Varsity Basketball team also went undefeated before the playoffs, advancing to the Elite Eight before falling to Cathedral Chapel, the CYO runner-up.
Girls Varsity Basketball finished second in the Foothill League, but advanced farther than the other Foothill league schools as they lost to eventual CYO champion St. Benedict in the Sweet Sixteen.
Girls Varsity Volleyball was also the runner-up in the Foothill League, and was also eliminated in the Sweet Sixteen
The Girls Varsity Softball team won two games, tied one game, and lost three games in their short six-game season.
Varsity Flag Football did not make the playoffs, with injuries and a tough league (two Foothill league teams made up the CYO final) a hindrance to doing well. They did finish fourth in the Foothill league.
The Cross Country team was successful in all divisions, with the cross country team including the CYO winner for the Boys Varsity in Jonathan Martinez, and the Girls Varsity runner-up, Arielle Guzman. The Falcons placed third in all of the Cross Country divisions except Boys Varsity, where they placed second. At the Mt. St. Anthony’s College meet (known as Mt. SAC), the Girls and Boys third grade teams both won their respective divisions for the Falcons.
The Track and Field team was also very sucessful, winning several meets during the season and winning a few races and relays during the CYO finals. Nearly thirty athletes qualified for the CYO finals.`
Cross County will be practicing over the summer (practice began last Thursday, 6/5). Varsity Flag Football and Girls Varsity and JV Volleyball will begin to practice later in the summer.
