Girls Varsity Volleyball
The St. Philip the Apostle Girls Varsity Volleyball team will begin their season on Tuesday, September 23 with an away game at rival St. Rita’s. The second place team in the CYO Los Angeles last year was Holy Family South Pasadena, a team that the Falcons will face at Holy Family on October 9th.
Last year, the Girls Varsity Volleyball team was the runner-up in the Foothill West, advancing to the Sweet 16 before losing to St. Linus. The Falcons had won a game against St. Cornelius in their playoff opener and beat St. Maria Goretti to advance to the Sweet 16, where they lost. St. Linus faced Holy Family after beating the Falcons, and Holy Family won en route to their second place finish to Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (ABVM). Assumption is often in the same league as St. Philip in some sports, but will be in a different league (the East Foothill) this year for Girls Varsity Volleyballs they try to repeat as CYO champions.
This year, tryouts were August 26, the day before Meet the Teacher day, and lasted three days. Practices started the next week, including a few early morning 6 AM practices.
