The Falcon Invitational

St. Philip won a third consecutive meet to begin the season in the Falcon Invitational. The Falcon Invitational meet was, as always, hosted by the Falcons at La Salle High School. This was the 15th running of the meet, which has grown progressively larger and more prestigious.

The Falcons won their track meet, the Falcon Invitational. They won both of the Novice division and won Boys B. They placed second in Girls Varsity (behind St. Rita) and Boys Varsity placed third (behind St. Rita and Assumption). Girls B only has 10 runners, and did not enter in every category, so they placed 5th in their division.

The day of the meet was one of the hottest of the year so far, reaching 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Despite that, the meet went very well. There were some glitches, such as some runners sitting on benches in the staging area for nearly an hour, but the meet was close to staying on schedule. Another detriment was the short track at La Salle, which is only about 350 meters long, instead of the traditional 400 meters. That did not greatly affect the meet, but the mindset of the long distance runners was slightly impeded by the extra half lap on the mile.

The Falcon Invitational was, as always one of the best meets of the season, because the meet went quickly and smoothly. All families in the Falcon track program volunteered to help with the meet, which greatly improved the flow of the meet.

In other sports, Girls Softball beat San Gabriel Mission 8-5, improving their record to 2-1 with one game left, against Holy Angels.
