Track and Softball Conclude Seasons

The Falcons before CYO finals

Two Falcon sports ended their respective seasons recently. Track and field ended their season as one of the top five team in the CYO Championships. Softball ended their season in the first round of the CYO Playoffs in a first-round game against Sacred Heart Los Angeles. Twenty-two teams made the playoffs.

Track and field went undefeated in four meets going into the final meet (there were no final standings for any of the CYO meets, but calculations put them at third in the finals). The Girls Varsity finished second in their division, behind St. Rita, while the Boys Varsity finished tied for 6th,  two points out of the top five and a trophy (the two points would mean a runner or team placing two spots higher). The Girls B were third, and Boys B finished the meet in third place.

The weather that day was cold (the temperature was between 57 and 62 degrees Fahrenheit) with a cold wind of 15 miles per hour at St. Paul High School. There was light rain during the awards ceremony, which immediately followed the final race, before a downpour came about fifteen minutes after the end of the meet. There were two Falcons who were injured, with pulled muscles that likely came from the cold.

Softball’s ending was marred by six team members traveling on the Washington DC trip, costing the Falcons any hope of victory against Sacred Heart Los Angeles. Sacred Heart lost their second round game; Holy Trinity (from San Pedro) won the championship game.

Boys Varsity volleyball’s season ended last week (on the 13th). More details to follow next week.
