7th Grade Damien Math Competition

On the morning of Halloween at around 8 o’clock a group of eleven 7th grade students showed their school spirit at a math competition at Damien High School that morning. Falcons Flyer spoke to one of the junior high math teachers, Mrs. Korman. Mrs. Korman mentioned that she sent an email to the entire 7th and 8th grade asking students if they would be interested in participating. The following students represented St. Philips at the competition: Katie Yan, Cameron Kuritani, Jericho Santiago, Vivian Nguyen, Maggie Giardello, Henry Schnieders, Sam Campagna, Ryan Miller, Elise Kingston, Gene Smith, and Miguel Talleda. The math team was awarded 3rd place overall and placed 2nd in super quiz. Along with the group titles St. Philips had a few individuals place as well. Henry took 8th place in arithmetic, Jericho placed 8th in algebra, Sam ranked 7th in logic and reasoning, Vivian got 5th in logic and reasoning, Miguel was awarded 4th in geometry, and Gene took home 3rd place in algebra. The students agreed that the competition wasn’t that difficult and that one of the best parts was getting candy. Saint Philips is so proud of these students for representing us so well.
