Christmas Concert Review

The Christmas Concert, featured in an earlier article, was no doubt amazing on the night of December 17th!

The annual St. Philip’s Christmas show on december 17 was great.  Grades K-8 sang Christmas carols and even played instruments!  Some highlights were when eighth grade sang “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and “Feliz Navidad”, seventh grade had a wide array of instruments for “Do You Hear What I Hear”, and when kindergarden gave their first touching performance.  It was a beautiful night and over 600 people showed up to watch the performances.  The show is always one of the school’s biggest events and a big thank you goes out to Mrs. Homan for coordinating and teaching the songs.  The eighth grade had their last performance and their most memorable one yet!

The experience was very touching, as well. The concert was full of unified voices and the grins of joyful parents. The church was flooded with song and versions of old Christmas tunes. Although the pre-bustle of arranging and ordering students was no doubt loud, the peace of traditional rhythms were a great preparation for the Christmas season, and to remind ourselves that the holiday really is about relaxing and having gratitude for the family around us. Keep up the AMAZING work Ms. Homan!

Here are 7th grade’s different opinions about the concert.

When asked what he thought, Gene Smith replied that the Christmas Concert was fun but he suggests the concert was less formal, like the spring concert but instead of traditional songs, we have lighter and more jolly caroling songs (EX: Jingle Bells instead of Emmanuel).

Katie Yan claimed that the concert was fun and she liked to play on the xylophone.

Emma Gunn said what she really liked about the night: that it was fun hanging out with my friends and it was a good experience singing in front of parents.

Quincy Bowles thought that the song 7th grade sang (“Do You Hear What I Hear”) was really fun and because we used instruments it sounded a lot better. The instruments played by the students made it unique.

Talia Luna said the concert was fine and overall she liked the experience.

Danay Dunn  was part of the team that played the xylophones and said that they messed up a little bit. She thought the 7th grade did well though, even Ms. France said so!

Heather Dopke replied that the concert was fine.

Campbell Buffington was also part of the team that performed on the instruments. She said the concert was fun, especially training to play the instruments.

Thank you singers, parents, family, and of course to Mrs. Homan for her hard work.
