NFL Football Teams Coming to LA?
On January 12, 2016, the owners from all 32 teams in the NFL (National Football League) went to Houston, Texas and discussed the relocation of a team to Los Angeles from their current city. During the meeting, they were to consider and vote about the relocation of the St. Louis Rams and two other teams to L.A. After the owners voted on the situation at hand, the results came in with an overwhelming margin by approving the relocation of the St. Louis Rams 30-2.
The St. Louis Rams were once in L.A when they moved from Ohio to California in 1994. The Rams are to move to L.A in the coming season and play their first game on September 11th at the Coliseum. They will play all their games there while their own stadium is being built. The Inglewood stadium is expected to open in 2019 with many attractions such as shops, restaurants, and a movie theater. The L.A. Rams’ stadium will not only be a place to watch football games but also a place to socialize.
Along with the St. Louis Rams heading to Los Angeles, the San Diego Chargers also have the opportunity to relocate. During the press conference, Commissioner Roger Goodell stated that the San Diego Chargers have been approved to move to L.A. as well but the owner wanted to explore their options and before committing. The Chargers have always been in San Diego since their AFL debut in 1959. The San Diego Chargers then moved into the NFL after the AFL (American Football League) and NFL merged in 1970. The owner of the San Diego Chargers has a big decision to make since the team has been in San Diego for 56 years.
The Oakland Raiders are also another team in the picture. The Raiders started their team in Oakland, but then moved to Los Angeles in 1982. 12 years later they moved back to Oakland and have been there ever since. The Raiders now have a chance to come back to Los Angeles but the Chargers must deny the offer because they have first choice. If neither the Chargers nor the Raiders want to move to L.A. the NFL will give them $100 million to remodel or build another stadium in their hometown.
In my opinion I would like an NFL team to move to Los Angeles because many football fans will be able to root for their hometown team. I also believe that the stadium will bring more diversity to Southern California because they will be able to share the liking of their home team together.
