The Spring Concert Preview

Every year St. Philip has a memorable spring concert for the whole school. The concert takes place outside and is the last concert that the 8th graders will have at the school before they graduate! The classes have been busily preparing with songs taught by Mrs. Homan, our music teacher.

There is no specific theme for the whole spring concert. Each grade sings a specific song from all over the world. For example a song can be from the Caribbean or from Canada. All classes have to wear a certain attire but all classes must wear black or blue jeans.

Kindergarten wears a red shirt and they are singing “Stamping Land,” which originates from Denmark. 1st grade wears any color shirts and sings “Mama Paquita” from Brazil. 2nd grade wears Western style shirts and sings “Red River Valley” which is a song from Canada. 3rd grade wears brown or tan shirts and sings “The Earth Is Our Mother,” which is a Native American song. Also some 3rd graders are dancing an Indian Dance to “The Earth Is Our Mother”. 4th graders wear yellow, orange, or white shirts and sing “The Papaya Song.” This song is a Calypso style song. Calypso is Afro-Caribbean music. 5th grade wears blue or green shirts. They are singing a mashup of “The Canoe” and “The Land of the Silver Birch” from Canada.

6th grade wears white shirts and sings “Do Re Mi” from the “Sound of Music”  musical. 7th grade wears red or black tops and sing “Drill Ye Tarriers” from America and the song tells about the building of Transcontinental railroad. As for 8th grade, their performance is always unique in the Spring Concert. Ms. Roldan, the computer teacher, teaches the choreography. Ms. Roldan pairs up the 8th graders, depending on their height, to dance together. Some 8th graders are performing before the concert starts to open up the show, that starts at 5:45pm.

The concert begins Friday May 20th at 6:00pm. Both students and teachers have been working hard in the Music Room! Come to the spring concert to see the amazing performances.
