The Smallest Stars
Mrs. Simone’s dance class stunned an audience of about 35 on Thursday with their dance to Lady Gaga’s “Applause.” The fourth- and fifth-graders waved their arms and kicked their legs in time to the music in a way so professional that by the end, I’m sure that more than a few members of the audience were convinced that they were actually watching some of Lady Gaga’s smaller backup dancers. Featuring the dance moves of Dominic Domenghini, Danay Dunn, Luna Ruiz, Ximena Santiago, Daniela Salazar, Celeste Teran, and Lindsey Mitchellena, the performance was one that will not be easily forgotten.
“[Practicing] was a lot of work!” said Lindsey Mitchellena, “But it was fun dancing with my friends.” Clearly, the practice paid off.
Audrey Ciampa, an eighth grade member of drama club, also enjoyed the performance. “It was really cute!”
As she was leaving after the performance, I approached Mrs. Simone to ask for a quote. She thought for a moment, and then smiled. “These kids can dance!”
