Have you ever looked at a grade on a test and felt disappointed or felt that you’re not smart because of the grade you got? Well this article is the perfect one for you! Don’t get me wrong grades are important, that’s the whole point of this article, but if you get a bad grade that is nothing to be disappointed about. Mistakes happen! This article will help you learn techniques on how to improve your studying so you can do better next time.
If you have trouble concentrating or find looking at a piece of paper and memorizing the material does not work or is just flat out boring, then these are the study methods that you should use:
- Blurg, this is where you quickly look over your notes and then jot or write down everything you can remember. This is a great starting point to see what you should work on.
- Teach it to someone or something. If you don’t want to sit around memorizing, look at your concept and then teach that concept to your friends, parents, or stuffed animals like your teacher would. See if you can explain it confidently and know what to say.
- Use a mind map or a web diagram. This is where you draw circles and connect them by lines to show the connections of ideas. This is a great way to take your ideas about something and see how they connect or grow onto each other and make your point stronger.
- Do a Kahoot or Gimkit! If you don’t want to memorize just find a Kahoot or Gimkit on the same concept you are learning, or you could make your own. It’s a fun game, and it helps you learn. Just make sure you are actually studying and not just playing the game!
If none of these ideas apply to you or interest you, then you understand information a different way. If you find it easier to look over notes and memorize, then these tips will be helpful to you:
- Watch documentaries or educational videos about the same topic. These videos could help you understand the concept in a whole new way that you could understand. For example, some people learn better when they listen to the information, and see visuals.
- Make applying notes that you can understand. Don’t just copy down everything the teacher tells you to write, break down that information in a way that will help you understand it the best. You can paraphrase it, just as long as you still have the same idea.
- Make flashcards. Making flashcards help you remember and learn a concept quickly and more efficiently, especially for subjects like Spanish, Science, Social Studies, and ELA. These flashcards could come in handy. It is a great tool to have!
Some extra important tips on what to do are:
- Study overtime or in advance. Spread out your studying to multiple nights instead of just cramming it all the night before.
- Don’t get mad at yourself if you get a problem wrong when you are practicing, or even on the test. You learn from those mistakes.
- Try your hardest! Don’t get lazy and say you do not want to study or you are too lazy right before the test. Even on the test you have to try your hardest, what counts is that you tried.
- Take your time!! Don’t rush or hurry because you want to be the first one done. You get no reward for doing that. Take the time to double check and go over your answer. Just because some else finished before you does not mean you have to start to hurry to finish.
Everyone has different methods for learning and processing information. It is up to you to decide which methods suit you the best and help you. Remember no one is perfect so it is okay to make mistakes!
Hopefully this article helped you discover new ways to study!
