We all know the saying from the famous Christmas song “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
“He sees you when you’re sleeping,
He knows when you’re awake.
He knows if you’ve been bad or good,
So be good for goodness sake!”
But how does Santa actually keep track of all of us? Sure, he can use his wonderful Christmas magic, but there’s just too many people! Well that’s where our beloved elves come in! Now if you believe in them or not, that’s up to you, but elves have been a Christmas tradition for a while. But, now that I’m thinking about it…when did elf on the shelf even start? And where did it come from??? Today we will dive into the history of this wonderful Christmas tradition, Elf on the shelf
Where did the elf on the shelf come from?
When a woman named Carol Aebersold was a child, she received Fisbee, a small elf doll dressed in red and white. Aebersold told her children, Bell and Chanda, that this very elf would fly to the North Pole every night during December up until Christmas, reporting the kids’ behavior to Santa. Fisbee would then return to be found in a different spot every morning. When Carol’s children grew older, Bell saw this small elf sitting on a shelf one day, and came up with the idea to write a book about it. The family collaborated together, creating a picture book titled “The Elf on the Shelf” that included your very own elf on the shelf! This book was then published back in 2005, and has been a fun family tradition ever since!
Are they real?
As I said before, it’s up to you to decide whether or not you believe in Christmas magic. Yes! Elves on the Shelves are real. And if anyone tells you otherwise, then they’re LYING!!!!!
Rules
Yes, there are rules. There is only one main rule, and that is, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR ELF ON THE SHELF AT ALL cost, or else they will LOSE their MAGIC and not be able to fly or move. If you do happen to touch your elf, you must quarantine your elf as soon as possible and sprinkle cinnamon powder around the elf. This will help the elf in its healing process and will be able to make it regain its magic and powers!
