Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate Dicamillo
Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate Dicamillo is the heart warming tale of a ten year old named Opal, who just moved. She lives with her father, who is a preacher. In this new town, Opal is having a hard time fitting in, until a surprise encounter at the grocery store makes a change for the better. She discovers a dog there, whom she names Winn-Dixie after the store. With the help of Winn-Dixie, she is able to find many new friends in the librarian Miss Franny, the supposed “witch” Gloria Dump, and the pet shop owner Otis. Because of Winn-Dixie, Opal comes to realize that although change is hard, she has people who love her and will be there for her.
