Charles Perrault’s Birthday

Meet Charles Perrault, the man who made everybody’s childhood!

Charles Perrault’s 388th Birthday took place on January 12th. Perrault is a famous 17th century writer who made many famous fairy tales and fables such as Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Puss in Boots, Cinderella, and many other famous stories. These famous fairy tale stories were already well known to people during the early 1600s, but the stories were passed from word of mouth. Without Charles Perrault, these stories may have been forgotten.

Charles Perrault was born on January 12, 1628  in France. He was French poet, prose writer, and storyteller, a leading member of the Académie Française. He is well known for writing the fairy tale collections and The Tales Of Mother Goose. Perrault’s writings were so influential that he was one of the figures who launched the Age of Enlightenment in Europe, a time where fairy tales and fantasies were not well received. It is known that he was 70 years old when he wrote his first fairy tale. He died when he was 75 years old in 1703.

Google celebrated Perrault’s birthday by dedicating a Google Doodle to him, such as the one shown above.
