Minecraft: Education Edition Announcement
Minecraft – yes, at least one kid in the family has been raving about the game since its release in 2009, now it’s coming to the classroom?!
On Tuesday, January 18, Microsoft and Mojang have announced a new, expanded version of Minecraft – called Minecraft Education Edition. This version of the game will be released as a free trial this summer after a development period this spring. They argue that if they should be serious about this project, schools, students, and parents should too.
Minecraft itself has proven to be a popular learning tool! According to Microsoft, more than 7,000 classrooms around the world are using this game and “kids love it!” It’s used for a variety of subjects – from STEM topics to poetry to art. With a specially made system tailored for classroom use, Minecraft: Education Edition gives teachers the equipment and tools to use Minecraft on an everyday basis to engage students in all types of learning. Parents can even track their students in a safe and friendly learning environment
But for this idea to really catch fire, Microsoft needs your help. If you support this modern idea of providing learning tools for students who learn visually, head over to http://education.minecraft.net/ to learn more and share this idea on your social media accounts!
