PROJECT SEKAI: Mizuki5 / Wither This Path of Thorns
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ARTICLE IS QUITE LONG

What is Project Sekai: Colorful Stage?

Project Sekai, more commonly known as Project Sekai: Colorful Stage (pjsk, prsk), is a rhythm game produced by SEGA and Colorful Palette. SEGA is well-known for its productions on Sonic and Angry Birds.

Proseka is a rhythm game with 20 original characters and stories. These 20 original characters are split into 5 main groups, or units. These groups in order are; Leo/Need, a band, More More Jump!, an idol group, Vivid BAD Squad, a street music group, Wonderlands X Showtime, a theater troupe, and Nightcord At 25:00, an online music group. This article will be focusing on Nightcord at 25:00.

But for context, each unit has their own worlds called “SEKAI” (Japanese for ‘world’). The members of a specific unit, for example Wonderlands X Showtime, can access their respective unit SEKAI via a song on their phone called “Untitled”. These SEKAI’s house six vocaloids, Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, KAITO, MEIKO, and Megurine Luka. The main six vocaloids are there to help the specific unit understand their true feelings. Each unit has their own SEKAI with their own six vocaloids (the six’s personalities are tailored on the units personalities), and even though members from different units have connections with each other, no one knows the other has a SEKAI.

Now, what is Mizu5, you ask? Mizu5, or by the event name “Wither This Path of Thorns”, is a focus event of one of the 20 characters, Mizuki Akiyama. Mizuki Akiyama is a video editor for online music group Nightcord At 25:00 and goes by the alias of “Amia”. Mizuki is also just a regular 2nd year high school student at Kamiyama High.

Mizu5 is a very important event in the history of Project Sekai, being one of the biggest and maybe most important. “Wither This Path of Thorns” is about Mizuki being motivated to let Ena, one of Mizuki’s closest friends, and the rest of Nightcord know about a secret they’ve been keeping for a while.

How was Mizuki motivated and how did it all go down?

In the previous Nightcord At 25:00 focus event, “Reeling in the Lights”, Mafuyu, aka Yuki and one of the members of Nightcord, was finally able to tell her father her true feelings. How she didn’t really want to be a doctor and her strained relationship with her father who basically wasn’t present in most of her high school life. Mizuki was inspired by Mafuyu to tell everyone their secret.

Even though Mizuki was motivated by Mafuyu to tell everyone their true feelings as well, Mizuki couldn’t help but be a bit hesitant. So when it was announced that the Kamiyama High School Festival was coming soon and that Ena might go… Mizuki sent her a message. About wanting to talk. After the school festival.

On the day of the school festival, Mizuki was feeling devastatingly anxious. She didn’t know how to tell Ena, or if Ena and the others would even accept Mizuki after they told them their secret. That was Mizuki’s train of thought until she ran into Rui, a friend from middle school. Rui knew about Mizuki’s secret, and told Mizuki that the two of them should talk. Which Mizuki and Rui did in the courtyard. Mizuki told Rui how she felt, how they felt scared, how she thought that Ena and the others would just be walking on eggshells around them to be “cautious”.

But Rui told Mizuki something that gave them a bit of hope. Rui wished for Mizuki to have their heart protected. In past events, “And Now I Wear This Ribbon” and “KAMIYAMA HIGH FESTIVAL!”, Rui has told Mizuki that despite both of their tough paths, he is happy that Mizuki had moved forward.

Kanade, composer of Nightcord, and Mafuyu, lyricist of Nightcord, met up with Mizuki and the trio looked for Ena. What they didn’t expect was that Ena was working at her class’s food stall, which sold.. Grilled squid. Ena quickly got out of her booth though. The group of musical artists walked around the school halls, looking at other classes, until they reached Mizuki’s classroom. Mizuki’s class was supposed to be an escape room, and Mizuki was to guide them after Toya, one of Ena’s brother’s best friends, told Mizuki that they should be the group’s guide. During the escape room, Mizuki had thought about how her friends, Nightcord, were just getting the answers to the riddles correct just from knowledge they had of Mizuki.

Mizuki and Ena

After the festival ended, Kanade and Mafuyu had to leave as the duo weren’t part of Kamiyama HIghschool. Of course, Mizuki told the pair that they would want to talk to them later, on Nightcord. So when Mizuki and Ena are left alone, like the event “What Lies Behind, What Lies Ahead”, Ena and Mizuki decide to talk on the rooftop. Except—Mizuki is told by someone in their class that another student in Mizuki’s class had gotten injured. Mizuki tells Ena to wait for her on the rooftop, in which Ena does that and heads up to the rooftop.

But..

This is where Student A, B, and C come in.

The Reveal

The moment Ena got up to the rooftop, she waited in a corner. So when the door to the rooftop opened, Ena immediately thought it was Mizuki and said Mizukis name until she realized that it wasn’t Mizuki. They were other students. Those students noticed Ena and they realized and, well, also asked if Ena was a friend of Mizuki’s. Ena said yes, but with a slightly confused tone. Student A kept asking Ena questions until he got to this one, singular, question.

“Does this mean you’re also a dude?”

“… Huh..?”

Of course, this question triggers Ena as Mizuki is Ena’s friend. However, the student tells Ena that it was a joke. A joke, yeah. A joke until Mizuki herself appears at the rooftop with the most shocked face.

Not so much of a joke anymore, right?

When Mizuki appears in the scene, we get a shocked and glaring picture of Ena looking directly at Mizuki. And so, Mizuki runs down the stairwell with Ena chasing them not too far behind.

Ena tries to talk to Mizuki. Tries to talk to Mizuki after their secret was revealed. But then, Mizuki spills everything. Mizuki tells Ena how she feels that she knew that Ena was shocked. How they knew that Ena was surprised about their secret. She keeps saying that Ena and the others, Kanade and Mafuyu, would just keep treating Mizuki the same. Keep working like normal. And they feel that all the “kindness” that she is getting… She feels that all this “kindness” being directed towards them was just a facade to protect Mizuki’s feelings.

==================================================================

So yeah. It’s MIZUOVER, as the fandom says. But we still have Ena5, Ena Shinonome’s fifth focus event left.

That event will focus on Ena’s point of view AFTER the events of Mizu5. I guess we’ll have to wait for November 30th now..
