December 7th was the CYO Cross Country Championship at Hansen Dam in the San Fernando Valley, and the Falcons had an excellent showing.
The A Girls placed First in their group, with Falcons also placing in the top 3 in Boys B, Girls B, Boys C, and Girls C. Individual Falcons also placed highly as well, with Liliana Zakaria placing in 2nd in the B Girls division, Ava Cowan placing 3rd in C Girls, and Teddy Sloane placing 1st place in Boys C, with a great time of 6 minutes and 37 seconds.
As mentioned earlier, the Falcons won the Overall CYO Championship, based on a powerful team performance.
However, the trophies were not won just in that one Championship Race. The team has been running and training since before school even came back into session.
Since CYO races began in October, along with the Mt. Sac Invitational, the XC Falcons have dominated race leaderboards of almost all races, in every division. In all of the races St Philip ran in this season, at least 3 Falcon age groups placed in the top 3. This was exemplified in the Jamie DeRose Invitational on October 12, where St Philip the Apostle placed in the top 3 for 5 out of the 6 divisions, with the Boys C winning 1st place.
Then, in the preliminary round of the CYO Championships on November 9th, Falcons placed in the top 3 for 4 out of the 6 divisions, with individual Falcons placing in the top 3, with Teddy Sloane in 2nd in Boys C, Ava Cowan 2nd in Girls C, Scotty Seley 2nd in Boys B, and Liliana Zakaria 3rd in Girls B.
The Cross Country team and coaches have worked very hard this season and made our school very proud with their amazing performance. Congratulations Falcons!
