
Mrs. Tavera is the substitute junior high ELA teacher for the remaining school year (2026)!
Mrs. Tavera chose to teach and help out at SPAS because she has enjoyed the time she has spent with the junior high students so she wanted to help them finish this school year strong.
We interviewed Mrs. Tavera!!!
Mia: How long have you been a substitute teacher for?
Mrs. Tavera: I have substituted for SPAS since in the fall of 2024, and I have taught in schools since 2008.
Pamela: What is your favorite thing about this being at SPAS?
Mrs. Tavera: I love how welcoming the students make me feel when I am at campus.
Mia: Do you have any pets?
Mrs. Tavera: Yes, I have a dog named Bodie, he is a one hundred pound pyredoodle.
Pamela: What is your favorite color and why?
Mrs. Tavera: My favorite color is yellow because it makes me happy.
Mia: Are you enjoying your time here so far?
Mrs. Tavera: Yes, I look forward to having time in the classroom with the students everyday.
Pamela: Why did you decide to become a teacher?
Mrs. Tavera: When I was in elementary school I had some really great teachers who inspired me to become a teacher.
Mia: Where did you get your education from?
Mrs.Tavera: I got my education at Long Beach State (a college).
Pamela: What is your favorite book?
Mrs. Tavera: My favorite book that I read in junior high was the Outsiders (which the 7th graders are currently reading).
Mia: What is your favorite subject?
Mrs. Tavera: My strongest subject in school was math, but I enjoyed writing especially when I got to be creative.
Pamela: Would you say your time as the substitute teacher for ELA has been good, stressful, fun…?
Mrs. Tavera: I’ve had a positive experience so far, and I am excited to do the novel studies with each class.
Mia: Would you say that seeing your children who are also junior high students face challenges and have success, changed the way you wanted to teach or the way you see students work load daily?
Mrs. Tavera: Absolutely, it helps me understand both my own kids and students better.
