Are the beaches safe for summer?
About a month ago I cleaned the Santa Monica beach with my family. There was a good amount of trash and I am going to tell you if the beaches are clean and safe to swim in. The trash items that my family and I found on the beach were plastic pieces. The trash was mostly buried below the upper sand layer. The people at the organization told my family and I and the other people volunteering to clean the beach that the trash mostly is from the sewers from neighborhoods so we should clean up around our cities to prevent the trash from going into the sewers and ending up on the beach. The people at the organization also said that many sea animals have died each year because of trash getting stuck on them or in the sea animal’s stomach from thinking the trash was food. But the beaches were pretty clean overall and I think that they are safe and clean to swim in even with that bit of trash. If we all pick up at least one peice of trash from our neighborhood everyday I bet we can make the beaches safer and cleaner for us, humans and sea animals.
