Sports Update
All winter sports have concluded for St. Philip, and the first event of spring sports has already occurred. On Sunday (March 8), the first track meet, the Phantom Relays, was held at Cathedral High School. The Falcons won the meet hosted by Sacred Heart High School Track easily, winning the meet with approximately the same number of points as the next two teams combined.
This year’s meet was the fourth annual Phantom Relays, and is usually the first track meet of the season. The meet is always composed entirely of relays, in sharp contrast with all of the other track meets, which only have two relay distances.
The Phantom relays had 10 categories of relays, with the 4×800, distance medley, sprint medley, shot put relay, 6×75, and 4×200 in addition to the usual 4×100, sprint medley, and 4×400 meter events.
The meet was initially scheduled to be run on February 21, but that was during the celebration of the Lunar New Year. Cathedral High School is in Chinatown, and the event would have been hindered by the celebrations, so the meet was moved later in the month.
The Falcons had multiple relay teams place in several events, and were the only school in the meet to have that occur in even one event.
The red boxes show that the event could not be run by that person, either because the person was not available or because the event was not run for that division.
